The 2009 Australian Event Awards - Best Export was presented to Maxxam in Oct 2009 for the planning and execution of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Torch Relay. We are very honoured to receive this award and the recognition by our peers. Maxxam, both individually and as a team, managed and trained the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Organising Committee’s staff to handle the massive event using the experience and skills that were honed on the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Torch Relay and then mastered on the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay, Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games Torch Relay, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay and Doha 2006 Asian Games Torch Relay. The Maxxam team overcame the demanding challenges that existed to produce a successful relay over 130 days including the national sector within China that achieved some of the largest crowds previously ever seen for a relay. As part of its commitment to Delhi 2010, Maxxam managed the Pune 2008 Youth Commonwealth Games Baton Relay (YBR). The YBR baton was carried through 9 states in India covering over 8,000 km with around 6,000 selected athletes having the honour to carry the baton. Instead of the Queen's message (as with the QBR), this baton carried water from all over the country. This was the first ever Baton Relay in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games. Over 7,500 Volunteers helped the baton's journey through 199 Cities, towns and villages. Hundreds of Universities, Colleges and Schools were involved and supported the event.
