Paralympic Torch Relay
As an extension of their roles with the Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch Relay, the Maxxam team were also responsible for the delivery of all facets of the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Torch Relay. Using the same innovative model as used for the Olympic Torch Relay, the relay visited every State & Territory Capital City in Australia, travelling for 14 days and involving 920 Torchbearers.
Directed by Di Henry, the team worked with local authorities and state and local multi-cultural and Indigenous organisations to ensure that these members of the Australian community were included in all facets of the relays.
The relay was instrumental in raising awareness of the Paralympic Games in the final days prior to the Opening Ceremony. The Maxxam team were equally instrumental in creating a point of difference between the Olympic & Paralympic relays thus placing the Paralympic Torch Relay on its own pedestal, and rightfully so.
